SEND

At Broadoak Academy we are committed to ensuring that all students maximise their abilities, ambitions and academic potential, and offer a high level of challenge accompanied by high levels of support so that all can achieve. We aim to foster an inclusive environment, developing high aspirations and have high expectations of all students and including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

The Academy provides support for students who have special educational needs and disabilities. Support includes in class support, one to one sessions or small group work. The support can be provided within the Academies timetabled day, before, or after, the Academies day. The support is provided by members of the Student Support Team (SST).

Full details of our SEND provision can be found in the SEND Information Report below.

Parental Support

The Supportive Parents website offers excellent support for parents with children who have special educational needs and disabilities.

Equality Objectives

At Broadoak Academy we are committed to ensuring that all students maximise their ‘abilities, ambitions and academic potential’.  We aim to foster an inclusive environment, developing high aspirations and expectations of all students and recognise our responsibilities, under the Equality Act 2010. We do this to ensure equality of education and opportunity for all students, staff, parents, and carers receiving services from the school, irrespective of race, gender, disability, faith or religion or socio‐economic background.

We recognise our general equality duty under the Equality Act to:

  • Eliminate all forms of discrimination, harassment and victimisation that are prohibited by the Equality Act.
  • Advance equality of opportunity.
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

Within my role I ensure information is shared with staff to enable quality first teaching in the classroom, I coordinate in class TA support and targeted intervention groups. I also make sure that students have the correct access arrangements to access their exams and the funding for in class support. I also make sure we apply for educational health care plans where needed and co-ordinate with external agencies that your child has the correct support in and outside of the classroom. Within the SEND team we have a Deputy SENCO and 13 Teaching Assistants.

If you are concerned about your child’s learning or access to the curriculum then please call the main switchboard or contact me via email [email protected]

Miss Leanne Wyman – Deputy SENDCo

SEND

I have worked in the Student Support Team at Broadoak Academy for 11 years and this is my second year in the role of Deputy SENDCo. I have a BA Honours Degree in Dance and Education and a Masters Degree in SEND (ASD). I work with students with a wide variety of SEND needs including cognition and learning; communication and interaction; social, emotional and mental health and physical and sensory needs.

My role includes promoting the delivery of effective SEND provision across the whole school both in the classroom and through bespoke intervention, as well as facilitating visits from outside agencies,  assisting with the EHCP process, making sure students have the correct access arrangements in place and ensuring students have access to everything they need to be successful.
