What happens next? – Key dates for your diaries…

Once you accept your child’s offer here at Broadoak, the transition work begins. Here is a summary of what this includes:

March onwards
We will be happy to answer any questions that you might have, and you are also more than welcome to visit the school again or meet with any of us on request. Please email: [email protected]

April, May and June
We will be visiting every single child and their year 6 teacher in the primary schools. We will be gaining as much information as we can from the primary school. This will include academic data but also things like behaviour, likes and dislikes, friendships, extra-curricular interests and personality traits.

For any students with additional or special educational needs, our Special Educational Needs Coordinator, Bella Wilson, will meet with her primary school counterparts to make sure that we have all the relevant information needed so that we can continue to meet the child’s needs in the best possible way.

During this period of time, we will also have some pre-transition visits for students who might be slightly more vulnerable and need that extra support with transition. They will come to Broadoak with a key member of staff from their primary school and will often work with their prospective Key Worker from here as well.

The Big Step Transition Week – week commencing 28th June
Your child will be spending 3 days with us at Broadoak Academy. They will be following a secondary timetable, experiencing a typical school day, meeting with their tutors and some of their new teachers, making new friends and gaining confidence throughout. Following a successful transition week in 2019, feedback from the students, parents/carers, teachers and tutors was all very positive indeed.

Parent and Carer events during Transition Week:

Thursday 1st July from 2-15pm – 3-00pm– Transition Week Showcase:
You are warmly invited in to have a look at what the students have been doing during transition week. They will be sharing some of their new learning and presenting some of their work.

Thursday 1st July – Session 1 3-00pm – 4-30pm and Session 2 – 5-30pm– 7-00pm:
Meet the Tutor, Barbecue and Rounders (to be confirmed). During these times, you can come along to meet with your child’s tutor and other key members of staff.

We look forward to meeting you soon!
