Science affects the world around us and the way we live, the science team at Broadoak are dedicated to teaching a broad view of science, incorporating a range of viewpoints and ideals. The curriculum content and its mode of delivery allows for students to make connections about their science learning to the world around them bring the subject to life and enriching the value of their educational experience. As an educational experience learners can expect a diet rich in both contemporary issues such as the health risks of mobile phones through to the ethical issues associated with genetic technologies, combined with the best elements of traditional science that we all remember from school, such as photosynthesis, reactivity series of metals and circuits. The science department has been lucky enough to have a significant amount of investment in technology and as such students can expect lessons to be significantly enhanced with ICT resources to ensure that their learning is truly rooted in the 21st century and in a style that suits them.

KS3

All students follow the national programme of study, incorporating the essential key ideas in science. All students take part in extensive practical and investigative work.

We have designed a ‘Themed Curriculum’ for years 7 and 8 which helps pupils appreciate the importance of science in our world.

Students will do a skills assessment and a summative assessment every term.
