Year 11 Newsletter SPRING 20.01.2023

Dear Year 11 parents and carers,

We have arrived at the January of Year 11 only a few months to those all-important GCSEs. Year 11 are motoring forward and working incredibly hard. I am so proud of them all.

I apologise that this letter will contain a lot of information. For ease, I have linked here each piece of further information which is available on the school website in our Year 11 Blog area.

The Year 11 Spring Newsletter contains the same information as this letter, in a slightly more visual format should you prefer to view this instead.

Year 11 February PPE Timetables (updated)

In feedback from November, students requested more advance notice of the content and coverage of the PPEs – this is provided here:

What will be assessed in the Feb PPEs – information for students

As last time, students have access to a range of resources to support their revision. Electronic resources are available here:

Information for students to support revision and revision resources

Any student who wants any of the following:

  • Revision guides
  • Revision cards
  • Equipment
  • Past Papers

Please email [email protected] and we will ensure they have a pack of revision materials to take home.

Year 11 Coursework Subjects – deadline 1st March

Any student who is taking a vocational course with a coursework element will be expected to complete this coursework at the latest 1st March. There is an interim deadline of the 7th February for the majority of subjects, with some others (such as Business Studies) having the later deadline of 1st March.

If you or your child have any questions relating to coursework submission, please email [email protected]

Year 11 Futures Evening

On Tuesday 7th February you are cordially invited to a very special evening to discuss:

  • your child’s transition to Post 16 provision
  • their current attainment and progress
  • their predicted grades
  • how to access support for their future success

Please see the attached flyer which is also available at this link:

Even if you think that your child has all their plans sorted, please do engage with this event. It will be a crucial evening for us to give you some key information and check that we have done all that we can to support their moving on to Year 12.

Any queries about this event, please contact [email protected]

Year 11 Parents Evening

On Thursday 30th March we will be welcoming our families to Parents’ and Carers evening to discuss the final few weeks before the final exams begin. On this evening, you will have the opportunity to speak face to face with teachers as well as have virtual appointments.

By this date, all results for internal assessment as well as January external exams will be collated so you will be able to have access to full details of your child’s progress to date. This will be shared with you during the evening.

On this evening, as well as meeting with your child’s teacher, you can also book in to speak with a member of the Senior team to discuss any concerns leading into the final weeks. This will be shared closer to the time in a separate letter.

Final Celebrations with Year 11

Year 11 will be invited to two very special celebrations at the end of the year. Mr McGilloway and I have spoken to the students about how this privilege will work. Students will be put onto a level according to their conduct and citizenship. Those on the top level will have an invite to both the Prom and in – school Celebration event. Those on the second level will be invited to the in – school event but not the Prom. Those who are on the lowest level due to conduct or poor attitude will not be invited to either event.

As I have said to the students – I would expect to see all the students invited to these special events to mark the end of their time at Broadoak. However, any student who does not meet out high standards for behaviour, conduct and ethos will not be invited. The Principal’s decision on this matter will be final.

Mr Thorp – Greenwood and Ms Wilde will be supporting the Celebration events, but if you have any questions about this, please contact [email protected]

Kind regards,

Miss C Smith

Vice-Principal
