Year 6 – Miss Pratlett’s Reading Challenge
Welcome to your new chapter at Broadoak Academy!
Broadoak students love to read and enjoy a wonderful library that you may have already visited on our open days. All of your teachers enjoy reading too and will read with you most mornings in tutor time. Our first challenge is for you to be ready to talk to them about the books you love next time you visit us.
In this pack you have some reading to get you started:
- These pieces are all based around the theme of childhood– lots of the characters you will read about are just like you, about to start the next part of an exciting journey where they will experience new things and learn about new ideas.
- You need to read the Matilda extract – even if you’ve read this book before.
- You should read all of these extracts for Year 6 Transition before your Big Step Week in Term 6.
- There is also a Big Broadoak Reading Challenge Sticker Chart included in the booklet and some stickers enclosed, for you to have a go at some tasks based on the reading. Use the stickers to track which ones you have completed.
- You should bring your chart and anything you create with you when you meet your new tutors and teachers and impress them with your work.
