KS3 Assessment

Students at Broadoak are assessed regularly during lesson time in order to check their understanding and learning over time.

Whilst day to day assessment frequently takes the form of teacher questioning and low stakes tests, there are two designated points in the year when students in Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 are assessed formally in all their subjects.

AP1 and AP2

The two assessment windows open in December/January and then later in June and are rereferred to as Assessment Point 1 (AP1) and Assessment Point 2 (AP2).

How it works

  • Students will complete an assessment in every subject in the curriculum.
  • Each assessment will be conducted during normal lesson time.
  • Students will sit no more than three assessments a day, usually only two.
  • Assessments are produced by the trust wide subject curation teams and students complete the same subject assessments as the other academies in the federation.
  • If students normally receive support in lessons, then they will receive support during the assessment.
  • Assessments will be marked by the teacher and the scores will help generate two main types of data, a percentage score and a DOOYA grade.
