Library
The Library is open throughout the school day and is staffed by a full time Librarian with student library assistants who also help out at lunch and break times. Students are encouraged to make the most of the resources available to them from the LRC, these include over 13,000 books, magazines, DVDs and online resources. There are comfortable seating areas for quiet reading and a computer area for students to use for research, study and homework; classes will often use the LRC during lesson times. The LRC hosts author visits, reading groups and other events through the year and operates a drop–in homework club every day after school.
Students may borrow 2 books for two weeks and a DVD for 3 days. Help is always available to students on finding resources, research, study and revision skills.
SORA E-book Reading app for students
SORA is a fantastic resource offering an online library with over 1500 titles to choose from. The collection includes audio books, contemporary young adult fiction and non-fiction books, some read-along books and some comics/graphic novels.
To access this resource, students will need to either download the Sora app on your device or via your web browser at www.soraapp.com. The Sora app can be downloaded from either Apple App Store or Google Play Store for free.
Please read these instructions for full details of how to login and access SORA through your Broadoak email address.
Once you have signed in you can browse and borrow from the large selection of books available. This is a shared library and other schools have access to the same collection. If a book is currently on loan you can place it on hold and you will be told the wait time. It is important that borrowers do place books on hold as this will inform the supplier the book is in demand and they may release additional copies.
