Year 9 Preferences Evening 2024
Dear Parents/Carers/Guardians,
I am absolutely sure that you will feel like it is only yesterday that the students in Year 9 joined us in Year 7. However, believe it or not, it is time already to choose their GCSE Preferences.
Choosing their next steps can be exciting, daunting and is another crucial milestone. Therefore, we invite you to join us to see what we have to offer at Broadoak at our Preferences Evening on Wednesday 7th February from 4-6pm.
During the evening there will be:
• Presentations with key information
• Careers, Advice and Guidance
• An opportunity to meet subject staff
• Information about all courses on offer
• Preferences handbooks to collect and take home for the half term break
I know you will be keen to commence this process and may have questions. The timeline provided should help to provide a sense of the process and what to expect. There is, however, one key message to note:
Preferences at Broadoak Academy and our timetable is built around the student’s choices; rather than the students choosing based on our model. This means we offer a selection of subjects, but whether these classes run depends entirely on the choices of the children. In addition, the number of classes we offer depends on the children’s choices. You may hear of other schools having restrictive and traditional ‘options blocks’ – at Broadoak we don’t do this. This is the reason we refer to this evening as a ‘Preferences Evening’ and the process as a Preferences process as we work hard to give children the best chance to access the subjects they prefer.
This is such an exciting time, and we will do everything we can in partnership with you to make this process as smooth as possible, we will.
