Year 11 – End of Term 5 update
Dear Year 11 Parents and Carers,
A Strong Start to the Examination Period
I am writing to confirm arrangements for Year 11 as they continue their GCSE examinations, and to recognise the excellent start they have made.
Firstly, I would like to congratulate our Year 11 students on their tremendous efforts across the first few weeks of exams. We have been incredibly impressed with their conduct, focus, and maturity. Notably, most students have maintained an outstanding 100% attendance for all exams so far with only one absence across the entire exam series to date — an unprecedented achievement. This reflects a real commitment from both students and parents, supporting strong routines, punctuality, and a positive mindset towards success during this important examination period.
Expectations and Attendance During the Examination Period
Students are expected to remain in school fulltime throughout the exam period. There will be no study leave, in line with Trust guidance and government recommended best practice. Students will continue to follow a bespoke, collapsed timetable until their final day, including masterclasses, targeted revision, and subject-specific support to ensure high-quality teaching and structured guidance throughout. New timetables for the first week back have been issued and can be accessed here: WC 1st June – Year 11 GCSE Collapsed Timetable.
Full attendance remains vital during this period. Being in school allows students to:
- Access expert teaching and focused exam preparation
- Receive ongoing pastoral support
- Attend targeted interventions
- Maintain strong routines and study habits
As always, the best place for students during this important time is in school, supported by their teachers.
Absence and Examination Protocols
Students are expected to attend all examinations. Any absence should only occur in cases of genuine illness or exceptional circumstances and must be reported through the usual procedures. All absences during this period will be recorded as unauthorised unless supported by appropriate evidence.
It is always in a student’s best interests to sit their examinations even in challenging circumstances, as special consideration is only applied in exceptional circumstances and cannot fully compensate for a missed exam. Where an examination is missed, appropriate evidence will be required in line with JCQ regulations.
Half-Term Revision Support
Over the half-term break, we strongly encourage students to continue with structured revision to maintain momentum. We will be offering in-school revision sessions across the following dates:
