BBC journalist gives inspirational talk

Broadoak Academy had the privilege and pleasure of hosting BBC journalist, presenter, and author Ashley John-Baptiste for a powerful and reflective session with staff as part of their INSET day.

Ashley, who spent his early life in the care system before going on to study at Cambridge University and build a successful career in broadcasting, delivered an emotive and thought-provoking talk centred around resilience, belonging, and the transformative power of education.

Speaking candidly about his personal journey, Ashley encouraged staff to reflect on the critical role educators play in shaping young lives, particularly those facing disadvantage or adversity. Ashley’s message resonated deeply with colleagues, reinforcing the importance of relational practice, high expectations, and unwavering belief in every student’s potential.

The session formed part of Broadoak Academy’s wider professional development offer and aligns closely with the Cabot Learning Federation’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and aspiration for all.

Staff feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on how Ashley’s authenticity and insight had reignited their sense of purpose and reminded them of the profound impact they have every day.
