Broadoak Academy has been recognised by North Somerset’s Local Authority for the ‘outstanding support’ it offers to children in care.
The award, presented by Claire Shiels (Director of Children’s Service in North Somerset) and Jacqui Scott (Headteacher of the Virtual Learning School), highlights the school’s strong, inclusive approach.
Officials praised the safe, nurturing environment where students are well known to staff and able to thrive.
Children in care at Broadoak were commended for their confidence and pride in learning, sharing work ranging from art and Macbeth to maths and forest school activities at their PEP meetings.
Careers planning was also noted as a strength, with many students already clear about their future ambitions.
Bella Charman, Broadoak’s SENCO, received particular praise for her leadership: “Nothing is too much for Bella!”
Broadoak’s principal, Ian Walsh, spoke of his pride in the team. He said: “This achievement reflects the unwavering dedication and compassion of our staff, who go above and beyond every day to support our children in care.
“This recognition is richly-deserved and a testament to the positive difference they make in our students’ lives.”
North Somerset Council concluded that Broadoak stands out as a school where children in care are supported to succeed both in education and beyond.
