Welcome to Broadoak Academy – Year 6 Transition 2026

A Message for Our New Year 7 Students and Families

Welcome to Broadoak Academy!

We are absolutely delighted that you will be joining our community in September, and we are excited to begin supporting you through this important and exciting transition to secondary school. This is a big step, and we are committed to ensuring that every student feels confident, prepared and ready to thrive from day one.

Getting Ready for Your Broadoak Journey

Since our first communication, our staff have been working hard behind the scenes to prepare for your arrival. This includes:

  • Setting up our internal systems ready to welcome you in September
  • Planning an exciting and engaging Big Step Transition Week
  • Working closely with your primary schools to learn more about you – academically, socially and pastorally – so we can support you as an individual

All of this helps us make sure that you feel known, supported and part of the Broadoak community as soon as you arrive.

Big Step Transition Week

We are really looking forward to meeting you during our Big Step Transition Week, where you will experience life at Broadoak, meet your teachers, make new friends and begin your journey as a secondary school student.

During this week, you will also be introduced to our House System through our special Sorting Hat ceremony.

Your house will be your team throughout your time at Broadoak, taking part in competitions and earning points together in the race for the House Cup!

Take Part in the Big Broadoak Reading Challenge

Before you join us, we invite you to take part in our Big Broadoak Year 6 Reading Challenge!

This is your chance to get creative, explore exciting texts and start thinking like a Broadoak student. You can choose from a range of fun activities, including:

  • Writing your own short story
  • Designing a book cover
  • Creating a poem
  • Researching inspirational figures like Malala
  • Writing a book review or building a glossary of new words

You can choose the activities you enjoy most and present your work in your own creative way.

📩 You can:

  • Bring your work with you to Big Step Week
  • Or send it to us at transition@broadoakacademy.clf.uk

We can’t wait to see what you create!

Information for Parents and Carers

We have also included our Welcome Booklet, which provides helpful information about life at Broadoak Academy. Inside, you’ll find details about:

  • Our core values: Time, Courage and Choice
  • The House System and pastoral support structure

  • The transition process and key dates

This booklet is designed to give you a clear understanding of what to expect and how we will support your child throughout their journey.

Keeping You Informed

We will continue to share important updates with you over the coming weeks to support a smooth transition.

  • Early June: Detailed information about Big Step Transition Week and a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) guide
  • Early July: A letter from Mr Walsh with information about your child’s first day in September, along with our Parent Handbook

These updates will ensure that you feel fully informed, prepared and confident as September approaches.
