Local Road Closure
Dear Parents/Carers,
As you may be already aware that Winterstoke Road bridge is set to be closed from Monday 24th November 2025 – Summer 2027.
Please see all details needed below from North Somerset Council.
Traffic management plans during construction
During works to replace the bridge, Winterstoke Road will be closed. Cars will need to take alternative routes, making other roads busier.
We have a proposed diversion route along The Runway, A371, Flowerdown Bridge and A370. This is necessary because of the demolition of the existing Winterstoke Road bridge which will force the road’s closure.
As the part of the diversion route, the Airport Roundabout and The Runway roundabout are expected to be extra busy. You may need to plan journeys carefully and consider peak travel times.
To minimise road disruption where possible and manage traffic diversion routes, the Winterstoke Road bridge project team have been co-ordinating with:
- North Somerset Council’s highway maintenance team
- other major projects in the area such as Banwell bypass, A38 works and the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP)
- highways England who are working on M5 Junction 21
- local bus services
The temporary service bridge will run along Bronte Close. Cars will still be able to access driveways but the park at the bottom will be used as a northern compound for the contractors.
It is important to plan ahead each day to make sure pupils are still on time every day
- Leave extra time in the morning as routes will be busier
- Check sat navs for best routes based on traffic
Kind regards
