Broadoak Academy opens its own school shop

Year 9 student Cody is enjoying a spot of shopping, something that might seem fairly ordinary. However, this is no ordinary shopping trip. Cody is browsing the shelves of Broadoak Academy’s very own student shop.

Stocked with everything from pens and water bottles to UNO games and footballs, the shop offers a fantastic range of rewards for students. There is even a laptop up for grabs, giving students something extra special to aim for!

Unlike a traditional shop, however, there is no need for pounds and pence. Instead, students can spend the House Points they earn through positive contributions to school life.

Points are awarded for a variety of achievements, including excellent effort in lessons, demonstrating the school’s values, showing kindness and respect, supporting others and going above and beyond in their learning.

Students can use their hard-earned points to purchase items from the shop or save them up to buy raffle tickets for the chance to win the laptop in the end-of-year prize draw.

The initiative is already proving popular, with students making the most of the opportunity to turn their hard work and positive behaviour into exciting rewards.

Tom Thie, Associate Assistant Principal, said: “We are delighted to see how enthusiastic students have been about our new school shop.

“It is a fantastic way to recognise and celebrate the positive contributions they make every day. Whether they are showing great effort in lessons, supporting their peers or demonstrating our school values, we want students to know that their achievements matter.

“The shop gives them something tangible to work towards and encourages everyone to keep striving for success.”
