Broadoak cricketers compete at North Somerset tournament

Broadoak Academy’s Year 7 and 8 cricket team delivered an impressive performance at the North Somerset Cricket Tournament, held at Uphill Cricket Club, securing a well-deserved second-place finish.

The tournament brought together schools from across the region, including Nailsea School, Winterstoke Hundred Academy, Worle Community School, Hans Price Academy and Priory Community School, for a day of competitive cricket.

Throughout the tournament, Broadoak Academy demonstrated outstanding teamwork, excellent cricketing ability, discipline and resilience against strong opposition.

Competing in a group of three teams, Broadoak recorded the following results:

• Winterstoke Hundred Academy – Won (by bowling the opposition all out)
• Hans Price Academy – Won by 15 runs
• Nailsea School – Narrowly lost by 5 runs

The team’s strong performances saw them finish second overall – an excellent achievement in an area renowned for its high standard of cricket, with two of the town’s leading cricket clubs producing talented young players.

Mark Poulding, Head of Physical Education at Broadoak Academy, said: “I am incredibly proud of the commitment, teamwork and determination shown by every member of the squad throughout the day.

“They represented Broadoak Academy with real sportsmanship and resilience, competing brilliantly against some very strong schools.

“Finishing second in such a competitive tournament is a fantastic achievement, and the experience will only help the students continue to develop both as cricketers and as young people.”
